Should the same rooting methods work as before?
ReplyDeleteI followed all the directions, got a success message in Odin, but Superuser is giving me error messages about binary codes not updating, and root checker is saying my device is not rooted. Help
ReplyDeleteAs stated in Points to note, the phone is no longer rooted. You must now root the device again.
DeleteMoreover, you can't even ROOT the thing after this. They plugged the exploits and turned KNOX on- so you can't root it without someone coming up with a proper ODIN-able image that's pre-rooted. They locked it down hard so they could sell it to the "Enterprise" crowd, never once realizing that many of that crowd won't sign off on it because they don't TRUST Samsung. I know I don't. After the stupidity with their current smart cameras' so-called security, I won't let them secure a whorehouse...
Delete"However you can root your device at anytime after flashing the firmware." Mind cluing us and the rest of the world in on how that is done? So far you are the only one who knows.
ReplyDeleteHe's probably never done this. Like many in the "community" they talk a big talk, but are just shoveling loads of bullshit and horseshit.
DeleteWith KNOX on, you're unable to run many of the exploits needed to be ran to get root.
Without Samsung's help in this one, you're going to have to hax0r up a pre-rooted ODIN image that the loader will allow.
You won't be getting Samsung's help here. They've got delusions unto which they're going to try to convince the "Enterprise User" crowd that they're secure and that people can trust them with un-managed updates to the security profile on the device (You either can't get any of them or you have to trust Samsung implicitly and turn automatic updates on- at which point the only say you have in what they do to your phone is turning that back off...).
Damn shame Samsung...you made good gear. I can't trust you as far as I can collectively pick the whole company up and throw you. Seriously. That's *EVERYTHING* you idiots. And the real users, the ones that would've mattered do more than just look at a checkbox for "security"- and you're not secure. Not even now. Security is a state of mind, not a tech.
i will not buy any of samsung shit any more locking down these phone suck
Deleteand i am going to get away from verizon control going to us cellular thay dont lock
down their phone screw verizon
Thank you so much for this. This is the only tutorial on this specific phone/update that I could find!
ReplyDeleteDon't follow this "guide" if you're not already rooted. VRUFNC5 will lock you out of root in ways that only the truly skilled have begun to try to get around. You'll LOSE ROOT. If you follow some of the hack guides on XDA, you can get something that roughly resembles Kit Kat and not lose root- but if you follow *ANY* of this, you will lose it and it'll be a while before you *MIGHT* get it back.
DeleteWill this firmware update wipe my phone, or will it work like the OTA update, which I can't get since my phone is rooted. Also, If this update causes my phone to lose root and wipe my phone, I guess it would be safer to unroot with SuperSU and just do the Verizon OTA update. Any input?
ReplyDeleteCannot download the file for the firmware! Help please
ReplyDeleteI need some help. My Verizon S4 did the over the air update and was working fine for a week or so. I had the unlocked bootloader previously and it removed that and I was completely stock. Now my phone says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" I tried Kies and it doesn't see my phone. Odin fails a few seconds in. I think it's because I have 4.4. Can someone please help me and lead me in the right direction. Thank you so much in advance!

DeleteThey've re-worked things so that you need a custom ODIN load to downgrade, etc. Let's just say the XDA crowd's working on it. May take a while though...
DeleteThey've crippled quite a few paths through to getting control of your device in an attempt to look "secure" to "Enterprise Users" so they can hoodwink big companies into thinking that their stuff's secure on a checkbox type manner.
Thing is, with the embarassing lack of security on their Smart Cameras and TV's, I wouldn't trust them as far as I could pick them up collectively and throw them. I'm one of the people they'd have to convince- and it's a right-out "NO".
i had the same problem with my verizon s4 found verizon software assistant tool online
ReplyDeletethis work for me just plug phone to usb open app
and go t repair assistant work for me 3 time good luck
Will this firmware update wipe my phone, or will it work like the OTA update, which I can't get since my phone is rooted?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if this method will wipe your phone but my phone was rooted and I was able to get the OTA update... I wish I hadn't though because I used programs that required root and now I cant use them.
DeleteWill this wipe my phone ? If im rooted and wanna go back to a stock image . i dont want this to wipe my data on my phone .
ReplyDeleteI've managed to follow all the steps successfully. But in the end it just doesn't work. Seems like this "simple" guide is not enough to root the phone
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this. This is the only tutorial on this specific phone/update that I could find!
